Thou Shall Have A Fishy…..
Today we went fishing for mackerel in Lamlash Bay. The weather was good, and we had great fun. Shaun, Autumn (Shaun’s daughter), John-Luke and I set off from Shiskine at about 1:00 and got back at 4:00.
However, in all that time we only managed to catch 4 mackerel. John-Luke reeled them in, with more than a little help from Shaun.
Once unhooked and in the bucket, JL spent 5 minutes playing with the dead and dying fish (dive bombing them back into the bucket and poking at their eyes!) after which he said “Poor fishes. Are we going to put them back now?”.
Some say fishing for mackerel is about as easy as it gets, no skill required, just lots of hooks on your line. Some even say if you can’t fish, fish for mackerel. Well I can’t fish, had lots of hooks on my line and I didn’t get a nibble.
This last picture shows Shaun with the mackerel. I get the feeling he isn’t smiling for the camera, he’s laughing at me.
After the fishing we stopped off to buy our own fishing tackle in Lamlash. When we got home JL did some ‘practice’ with his new fishing rod and nearly had Ruth’s eye out.
Our next fishing expedition will be in about two weeks time. By which time the mackerel will be swarming all over the place and biting at anything that moves.
Even I might be in with a chance!
