Newton’s Third Law of Motion
Newton’s third law states “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”. Very logical I’m sure you will agree. Do something and then something happens. Simple.
Well, a few things over the last couple of days have made me realise why nothing much gets done in the public sector e.g. the NHS.
Yesterday whilst working between the rafters of the roof, I managed to hit my head on one of the nails sticking through the boards. You may be able to see the nails on the picture above.
Not one minute later I did the same thing again on almost exactly the same spot on my head. This time I drew blood. Of course I wasn’t wearing a hard hat, and didn’t intend stopping work to go get one.
Today, John (Ruth’s dad) nearly stepped off a 9ft drop backwards, whilst we were boarding and insulating the ceiling.
Where I used to work these two minor incidents would have been closely followed by ten minutes paper work (incident forms).
This has led me to postulate my own law, that in the public sector “For every action there is an equal and opposite form to fill in” (to prove that the action happened).
In keeping with Newton, I shall name this law Stewart’s Third Law of Inertia (though I haven’t worked out what the first two are yet).
