Floor Smashing
As there is very little progress with the roof (cos of the weather) I spent part of today smashing up some concrete floor with a 10lb sledge hammer. This broken mess is the result of my labour so far.
I dare not break up any more of the floor as the ceiling may fall down and kill me, and that won’t do at all.
The reason for the heavy hammer work is so we can install underfloor heating, linked to a ground source heat pump.
For those of you who don’t know what ground source heating is (I didn’t until a few months ago), it is a way by which you can draw heat out of the ground around you. It uses the same principle as a domestic fridge but instead of drawing the heat out of your white wine and food, the heat is drawn out of the ground. Simple.
Anyhow, the installation of the underfloor heating would require the existing floor to be raised by at least 3.5 inches, which would result in the main staircase having a very low first step. Which is not allowed by the council planning mafiosa.
To get round this issue I have to smash up the existing concrete floor.
