Traffic Chaos
Last week we had a two centre trip to Glasgow and then Halifax (in Ingerland).
One thing that struck us about the mainland was the sheer amount of traffic. We have only been living on Arran for five months, but in that time we have become accustomed to very low levels of traffic (so low there is no need for roundabouts or traffic lights on the island).
Where we used to live just outside of Halifax seemed more like a busy metropolis than the quite semi rural setting we remember.
Getting back to Arran was a relief, and we felt the oppressiveness of city/town life lifting from us.
That doesn’t mean traffic is not a problem though, especially when your seven year old son takes it upon himself to ride home on his bike on the wrong side of the road.
He did this on the way back from a trip to the postbox. A driver who passed him stopped by to let Ruth know what JL was doing.
I have told him the basics of cycling on the road, but he is clearly too young to fully understand why he should obey the rules. I was exactly the same when I was a kid/lad/ruffian.
