Weekend Break
Last weekend we escaped from the island and spent a few days in lovely Edinburgh. We had good weather, good food, and stayed in a very nice hotel.
On the way John Luke and I agreed that traveling by train is much better than by plane. Plenty of legroom, and no endless waiting around or silly security checks (’No I didn’t pack these bags myself, and yes someone asked me to carry a parcel onto the plane’).
Abigail wants to walk everywhere, which is a bit tough on the back. I get John Luke to help out with this, as he is closer to the ground than Ruth or I.
This picture shows John Luke walking Abigail around Glasgow Central train station. You can see a short video of this here.
As yet none of us has managed to wear her out yet. She just keeps on walking.
With impeccable timing we arrived at our hotel at the same time as a 100 strong junior orchestra (with instruments) from Massachusetts. They were a great bunch of kids/teenagers and, when they saw we had a baby, they let us get through the throng to the reception desk.
Nearly every other person in Edinburgh seemed to be an American. I would of thought the high exchange rate would have kept them away, but they were there in their droves.
John Luke and I went to the Edinburgh Dungeons which was great fun and a good laugh. John Luke particularly liked the way the actors called everyone ‘wee jobbies’.
Not the best use of language, but as John Luke points out he knows much worse ’swears’.
We also went to Edinburgh castle and saw the Mons Meg cannon (or Mens Mog as Ruth kept calling it).
Here you can see John Luke just before he got into the cannon and was fired at enemy troops.
